Artemisia Annua by Nutramedix is a hydro-ethanol extract from the aerial parts of Artemisia annua. Artemisia annua is made from the aerial parts of Artemisia annua. This plant belongs to the Asteraceae/Compositae family and is commonly known as sweet wormwood or sweet annie. The main constituent of Artemisia annua is sesquiterpene lactone artemisinin. Other constituents include monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, flavonoids, and polyphenolic acids. Polysaccharides are also a key constituent and may enhance artemisinin’s bioavailability. Artemisia annua has been used in traditional Chinese health practices for centuries.
Sesquiterpene lactone artemisinin is a terpene. They are natural isoprene-derived compounds, they show a variety of biological activities, such as anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiparasitic, antiviral, etc. They constitute the largest group of natural compounds with more than 50,000 molecules of diverse chemical structures.
