Depression (part 2) Candida and the Intestinal Connection

symptoms of depression

Endemic depression means it is not related to a current emotional event in your life, but to a systemic health issue. This issue may have little to do with serotonin or dopamine uptake, but may be a myriad of underlying issues. Candida Albicans is one of the common culprits in the causes of depression. My own experience of having severe depression when I was in my early twenties had little to do with my neurotransmitters, but was 100% due to my gut imbalances from post antibiotic overuse. Teenage acne was not a reason to be on antibiotics. Candida albicans overgrowth and its ability to produce a formaldehyde type gas called acetaldehyde that can hinder neurotransmitter pathways and causes brain fog, depression, anxiety, fatigue, gas, loose stools, etc. My chapter The dark side of antibiotics gives a much bigger picture of the pitfalls of antibiotic use. This is why I endorse proper intestinal marker testing to see what is lurking behind the scenes. If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, mood swings, lapsed memory, sleep issues and need help, this test may be just the thing to get proper evaluation and guidance in the right direction. Two excellent products that can effectively support healthy intestinal candida levels are from Microbiome Labs Restorflora and Mega MycoBalance.
